ETHER does not decide whether a paper is good. It ranks papers according to the topic and priority signals defined by the user.

Topic relevance

Does the title, abstract, and metadata match the radar query set?

Recency weighting

Recent papers can receive a boost, with decay over time.

Citation velocity

Rapidly cited papers can rise when citation metadata is available.

Priority term matching

Matched terms from the signal profile increase score according to category weights.

Source priority

Journal, preprint server, DOI, PMID, and source metadata can influence filtering and ranking.

User-defined weights

Users decide whether methods, clinical relevance, datasets, reviews, or recency matter most.

Off-topic penalties

Negative keywords, broad-topic penalties, duplicate penalties, and review penalties reduce noise.

Research Relevance Score = topic relevance + Recency weight + Source priority + Citation velocity + Author/lab watchlist + Open science signal + Clinical/translational signal + User feedback signal - Off-topic penalty - Duplicate penalty

Each paper says why it ranked highly: strong topic match, recent publication, code/data availability, prioritized source, watched author or institution, or membership in a growing topic cluster.
